2021 Ford Mustang
Always true to its roots, Ford's Mustang sports car returns for 2021 with several exciting changes. The Mach 1 model is back, powered by a 5-liter V-8, and Ford Co-Pilot360, a suite of driver assistance technologies, is now available on the EcoBoost and GT models.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2021 Ford Mustang is divided into EcoBoost, EcoBoost Premium, GT, GT Premium, Mach 1, and Shelby GT500 models. Except for the Shelby GT500, LED headlamps are standard, and the Over-the-Top Racing Stripe is optional on all grades.
Each trim has its own highlights, such as the EcoBoost Premium with 18-inch aluminum wheels with high-gloss ebony black-painted pockets and pony projection lights. The GT trim adds 18-inch aluminum wheels with high-gloss ebony black-painted pockets and a raised blade deck lid spoiler to the mix. Higher trims go up to 20-inch wheels while both stylizing and upgrading the Mustang to the fullest. For 2021, the Shelby gets three new color options: Grabber Yellow, Carbonized Gray Metallic, and Antimatter Blue.
Engine (Power)
The 2021 Ford Mustang is rear-wheel drive standard and uses a six-speed manual, seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, or an available 10-speed automatic depending on the model. There are five engine choices, the first being a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Or, consider upgrading the EcoBoost with an available 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder with 330 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque (part of the Performance package).
The GT comes standard with a 5.0-liter V-8 with 460 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, while the Mach 1 trim gets a 5-liter V-8 with 480 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. Last and certainly not least, the 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 uses a 5.2-liter supercharged V-8 with 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
Performance is what made the Mustang a legend in the first place, and the 2021 model lives up to the legacy. The steering is responsive, the acceleration is quick in all engines, and various selectable driving modes increase the driver's adaptability to new situations on the road. If your appetite for Mustang thrills cannot be quenched with base editions, several packages exist to enhance or customize the various trim levels.
Interior
The 2021 Mustang fits four, except for the Shelby GT500, which has no back seat row. The seats are supportive, and Recaro sports seats with extra side bolstering are available, along with dual-zone automatic climate control for those who will be carrying passengers often. The high-quality materials inside the cabin lend a top-notch feel even on the starting EcoBoost. As for grocery space, you get 13.5 cubic feet of trunk space with the Mustang coupe.
The standard infotainment features include a 4.2-inch display, voice-controls, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a six-speaker stereo, and FordPass Connect (lock and unlock the doors with your smartphone). An 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, two USB ports, navigation, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, and HD Radio are available.
Safety Features
The 2021 Ford Mustang's newly standard Co-Pilot360 package adds blind-spot information with cross-traffic alert and similar advanced safety tech. An available Co-Pilot360 package adds adaptive cruise control, evasive steering assist, and more.
