2025 Ford Explorer: What To Expect From the Next-Generation SUV
The 2025 Ford Explorer represents a significant evolution of America's beloved midsize SUV. This next-generation model combines modern design elements with advanced technology features, creating a compelling package for families and adventure seekers alike. The refreshed Explorer introduces the new Ford Digital Experience, setting a new standard for connectivity and convenience in the midsize SUV segment.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2025 Ford Explorer is available in four trims: the Active, ST-Line, ST, and Platinum. The lineup features a distinctive new grille design on each model. The Active trim has 18-inch painted alloy wheels, while the ST-Line brings larger 20-inch painted alloy wheels and more sporty styling. An addition for 2025 is the optional black-painted roof, available on the ST-Line, ST, and Platinum trims, creating a striking two-tone appearance. Revised headlights and front bumpers give the Explorer a more contemporary look, while the redesigned taillights now feature a horizontal illuminated element that spans the width of the vehicle. The new Vapor Blue metallic paint is now available.
Engine (Power)
Multiple powertrain options are available. The Active, ST-Line, and Platinum trims come equipped with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine, generating 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The ST trim features a potent 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine producing 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque, which is also available as an option on the Platinum. Both engines pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
A balance of power and capability defines the driving experience. The 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine propels the Explorer from 0 to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds, while the more powerful 3.0-liter V-6 in the ST trim achieves the same sprint in 5.1 seconds. All models maintain a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. Rear-wheel drive comes standard across the lineup, with all-wheel drive available as an option. Six selectable drive modes allow you to optimize vehicle performance based on road conditions and driving preferences.
Interior
Cabin efficiency is maximized with up to 85.8 cubic feet of cargo space in the Explorer Active. A 13.2-inch LCD touchscreen infotainment system is standard, complemented by a 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster. New soft-touch materials on the center console and door panels elevate the overall feel of the cabin. The Platinum trim adds available multicontour massaging seats, while the ST-Line, ST, and Platinum models feature a premium Bang & Olufsen 14-speaker sound system with 980 watts of power. Wireless charging pads come standard across all trims. The integrated soundbar speaker system provides immersive audio quality, while new interior color schemes refresh the cabin's appearance.
Safety Features
Advanced technologies enhance overall road visibility and safety. Ford Co-Pilot360 technology comes standard on all models, providing essential driver assistance features. The ST-Line, ST, and Platinum trims offer available BlueCruise hands-free highway driving capability. Every Explorer includes Ford's Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert and Pre-Collision Assist with automatic emergency braking. The lane-keeping system helps maintain proper vehicle positioning, while adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane centering makes highway driving more convenient and safer.
