There’s plenty of amazing wildlife around Ortonville, and there’s nowhere better to observe this abundance of species than at Rose Lake Wildlife Area. Designed specifically to provide habitat for as many different species as possible, it’s a haven for pheasants among others.

Rose Lake Wildlife Area is located in Lansing, under an hour’s drive from Ortonville. Free parking is available onsite.

4. Ride a Horse at Horse’n Around Stables

If you’ve never ridden a horse before, it might be time to change that fact! It’s a fun and exhilarating activity, allowing you to form a unique connection with an animal, and enjoy exploring trails from a brand-new vantage point.

The stables are located within Waterloo State Recreation Area, and visitors can enjoy guided trail rides throughout the park.
