The Explorer name has long been equated with excellence in the midsize SUV class, and the 2021 model year seeks to make that position permanent.

Variety of Trim Levels

The 2021 Ford Explorer is available in five trim levels: the self-titled Explorer, XLT, Limited, ST, and Platinum. The latest Explorer is riding off the fresh redesign the 2020 model year received, bringing a sporty swagger to the road. The front fascia features a black mesh grille at the lower trim levels and a chromed honeycomb grille on the Platinum. Available LED lighting for the front and rear give the Explorer an unforgettable presence even at night. Give your Explorer the available twin-panel moonroof to open up your cabin to the great outdoors.

 An Impressive Engine

The entry-level turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine gives the Explorer 300 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque to play with. If you need more power, opt for the ST and Platinum’s standard turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine for 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. Also available is a 3.3-liter hybrid V-6 engine that produces 318 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque. All three engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Dependable Performance

Upgrade your 2021 Explorer with the available four-wheel-drive system to get access to the Terrain Management System. This gives you seven situation- and terrain-specific drive modes to choose from, including snow/sand, trail, and eco. This drivetrain also gives the SUV the hill descent control feature, which helps you maintain ultimate control over your vehicle on steep grades. When equipped with the trailer tow package, the 2021 Explorer can tow up to 5,600 pounds confidently. Even the hybrid model is a powerhouse — it’s the only hybrid in its class that can tow up 5,000 pounds.

Sleek Interior

The Explorer seats up to seven passengers in three rows. Opt for the PowerFold 50/50-split rear seats to increase your Explorer’s cargo space with ease. The E-Z Entry second row provides better access to the third row. Organize and secure your gear with the available cargo management system that adds clever storage compartments to your Explorer. Every Explorer comes equipped with a touch screen that’s compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but the available 10.1-inch portrait touch screen turns your SUV into another smart device at your disposal.

A Wide Array of Safety Features

Ford’s focus on your safety is more apparent through the Explorer’s standard Ford Co-Pilot360 driver-assist technologies. This suite includes the blind-spot information system, a lane-keeping system, automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rearview camera. For extra assurance, add the available evasive steering assist system to enhance the Explorer’s responsiveness in tough situations. The available Active Park Assist 2.0 makes sliding into parallel and perpendicular parking spaces easier than it’s ever been. These smart safety technologies work with passive safety features such as advanced air bags to provide you with a secure home away from home.
